The Gospel Of Work

In a free, 8-part video series directed by Michael Matheson Miller of Kallos Media and led by Andreas Widmer, The Gospel of Work wrestles with questions of the meaning, purpose, and attachment we have to (or, in many cases, detachment from) our jobs & careers.

The Gospel of Work program, offered by the Ciocca Center, explores the intersection of faith, work, and purpose by helping individuals understand how to integrate Christian values into their professional lives.

This 8-part video series equips students, entrepreneurs, and professionals to see their work not just as a career, but as a vocation—a calling to serve others and contribute to the common good.

Inspired by Catholic social teaching and the teachings of the Gospel, the program fosters a deeper understanding of how work can be a path to holiness, personal fulfillment, and societal transformation. Participants are encouraged to live out their faith through ethical leadership, service, and a commitment to building a just and flourishing world.

Episode 1: An Introduction

Our culture is giving us three messages about work: we live for work, live for the weekend, or find a work-life balance.

Episode 2: The Culture of Conformity

How do we avoid the culture of conformity? One of the biggest challenges we face as Catholics is aligning our desires with the truth of the Gospel instead of the culture at large

Episode 3: The Spirituality of Work

Work is an invitation to partner in creativity with God the Father. Each of us is called in our own unrepeatable way to continue the “work” of creation. Our path to salvation is through our participation in the redemptive work of Christ.

Episode 4: Prayer

Through daily prayerful examinations, we become more attuned to our daily habits and actions in our work. Prayer develops virtue and roots out faint-heartedness, strengthening us to live out our vocation to work in love.

Episode 5: Do What is Right

In order to succeed in our careers and business, we need to make decisions that are wise and reflect the truth of our humanity in light of the Gospel. Each person is a unique and unrepeatable beloved of Christ.

Episode 6: Humility and Detachment

Humility and detachment encourage us to think less of ourselves and worldly materials so that we remain rooted in Christ. Through our commitment to prayer, we receive the grace to cooperate in right action with God’s creation story.

Episode 7: The Social Nature of Business

Work is a reflection of our social nature. When we work, “we don’t just make more, we become more.” We flourish and grow our God given gifts as we provide services for the common good of our community.

Episode 8: Unity of Life

The desire for a work-life balance is a desire for unity. What our hearts truly desire is God. The good news is that we are able to achieve an integrated life with God and our primary vocation at the center.
